LET’S CELEBRATE: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

You’re in rude health when…You’re not a woman who needs a man, you’re the woman a man needs. You put the POW in empowerment. You stand up and speak up for what you believe in. You’re not a female boss, you’re just a boss. You don’t need to grow a pair, you’ve got a vagina.

We’re using International Women’s Day as a chance to introduce some of our Rude Health team and the women who inspire us. Here’s who floats our boat.

CAMILLA // CO-FOUNDER AND BRAND DIRECTOR

For everyone to be in rude health.

What makes you in rude health?

What’s your dream in life?

To buy my Mum the red sports car I promised her when I was five. She has it in writing. Rookie error.

What makes you in rude health?

The inflatable watermelon that comes on EVERY holiday with me.

ELLE // MARKETING

Who inspires you?

A friend, Lara, who won the Mongol Derby (the longest, toughest horse race in the world). She’s unstoppable.

What’s your dream in life?

To live by the sea, and swim every day.

What makes you in rude health?

Making homemade tagliatelle, in a toga, whilst drinking tequila.

SEB // MANAGING DIRECTOR

 Who inspires you?

My mother inspired me.  She is Australian and came to the UK not really knowing anyone.  She had 2 boys and became a single mother just after my younger brother was born.  My father was very absent.  She started with nothing, worked hard as a secretary, moved into PR, corporate communications and then to business school (we are the only mother and son to have done the Sloan programme at LBS).  From there she worked on the original pitch for a crossing from UK to France, working for the original winners, Eurotunnel.  She went on to become a director of a successful engineering company in the UK, where she used to fly around in the corporate jet and then met my step father and retired.  My mother was a good looking women, the level of sexual harassment and discrimination she experience (and that I was aware of) is just in a different league to today.  I am very proud that she was so successful and that she, in her own small way, will make working life better for her grand-daughter.

What’s your dream in life?

My dream in life is to continue to learn.

What makes you in rude health?

In terms of being in Rude Health, I believe that we are no longer connected to food but that Rude Health can make a difference and help people to better connect to food.

MADDY // SALES

Who inspires you?

Stacey Dooley. She’s brave, original and makes a great documentary.

What’s your dream in life?

That more people appreciate the utter joy you can get from food and that we see fewer food-related anxiety disorders.

What makes you in rude health?

Smiling, always.

ALEX // CAFE BARISTA

Who inspires you?

Nina Simone – I don’t think there is anyone I am more different to but her civil rights campaigning and her music makes me wish I could be like her.

What’s your dream in life?

To learn to cook something other than breaded chicken.

What makes you in rude health?

When you wash pots and pans for 4 hours and still feel good in the Rude Health Cafe.

AMY //  OPERATIONS

Who inspires you?

Jack Monroe (Guardian columnist, campaigner, author & blogger) speaks openly about her own mental health issues, encouraging dialogue on the topic more widely. Her recipe books and blog are good resources to help people create delicious and nourishing meals on a tight budget (of great importance, when many in Britain today struggle to properly feed themselves and their families).

What’s your dream in life?

To make the world a brighter place step by step.

What makes you in rude health?

My fridge contains a sourdough mother, homemade sauerkraut, homemade tepache, homemade water kefir and (shop-bought) dairy kefir. Good for the micro-biome, but they taste good which is the important part!
