Coconut Milk: All You Need to Know

What Is Coconut Milk?

Coconut milk is a dairy alternative with a tropical twist. Whole, coconut flesh is blended to make coconut butter and then mixed with water to make this delicious dairy-free drink. Rude Health’s Coconut Drink can be used the same way you’d use any dairy alternative – stirred into tea or coffee, poured over porridge or sloshed into cereals.

But this delicious alternative also has a few more tricks under its shell. It can be used as an ingredient in cakes, curries, cocktails, ice creams, soups or even sauces.

The possibilities for dairy-free creativity are endless with this one.

What Does Coconut Milk Taste Like?

Coconut Milk has a light and refreshing flavour with, well, a coconut-y edge. At Rude Health, we have perfected our recipe to have just the right amount of coconut (7.5%) – it will feel like a holiday for your taste buds, without overpowering the flavour.

We also blend it with rice to add a smoothness to the drink whilst also providing a perfect natural sweetness.

Prefer a more neutral dairy alternative? We’ve got you covered. Why not try our creamy Oat Drink or Cashew Drink which have more subtle flavours, similar to dairy milk.

Is Coconut Milk Healthy?

At Rude Health, we prefer not to label food and drinks as “healthy” or “unhealthy”, “good” or “bad”.  Our Coconut Drink is Gluten Free, Organic and contains just 4 natural ingredients, with no added sugar or artificial anythings. We simply take the coconut and whip it up until it’s smooth. After blending it with rice for sweetness, we just add pure mountain spring water and a pinch of sea salt. That’s it.

It is delicious and a great alternative to milk – but Coconut Milk also has some great benefits: it is perfect for anyone who can’t drink milk for allergy or lifestyle reasons, or for those who simply don’t enjoy dairy or that would like more variety in their diet. Rude Health’s Coconut Drink is also safe for people with nut allergies to enjoy, or those with gluten intolerances and allergies and only has 53 kcal per 100ml.

Nutrition varies from product to product, so please always check the packaging of your preferred drink. You will find full nutritional information for our drink, and all our other alternative milks, on the relevant product page on the website. We always recommend consulting with your doctor for any diet specific advice.

Can I Make Coconut Milk At Home?

Yes, home-made coconut drink is actually one of the quicker dairy alternatives to make in your kitchen since you don’t need to wait for any nuts to soak like you would with almond, cashew, or hazelnut milk.

All you’ll need is shredded coconut, water and a high speed blender. If you like your dairy alternatives on the sweeter side you can even add dates to the mix for a natural source of sugar. Blend until smooth and strain through a nut milk bag or even a clean t-shirt will do.

Hate seeing food go to waste? Try using the leftover coconut pulp the next time you cook. Sprinkle it over your granola, mix it into your next cake batter, or try adding to your smoothie for a summer drink with a real twist.

Rude Health Coconut Drink

We aren’t the only ones who have caught on to how amazingly versatile coconut milk is, so now there are quite a few to choose from on the supermarket shelves. Other coconut dairy alternatives add thickeners and gums to make their milk similar in texture to dairy milk but we think food should be made out of food. So we steer clear of any ingredients that are unnatural, unpronounceable and unrecognisable.

Rude Health Coconut Drink: Only contains four real, great tasting and great quality ingredients. Organic coconut butter, natural spring water, Organic rice and a pinch of sea salt. The rice acts as a natural thickener and the creaminess from the Organic coconut gives it a smooth texture and a super coconut-y taste. Nothing artificial or refined. It is organic and gluten-free but above all else, it tastes mouth meltingly delicious. The real proof is in the taste.

Why Do You Call It Coconut Drink And Not Coconut Milk?

If it’s a drink that’s from an animal or a coconut, it can be called milk. If it comes from anything else such as a nut, then it can’t. Although we’re allowed to call it Coconut Milk, we wanted to make clear the difference between our Coconut Drink and the one you find in tins.

Other people call their drinks “m*lk” but at Rude Health we are happy with “drink”- because that’s exactly what it is. A deliciously tasty, coconut-ty and creamy drink made from organic ingredients.
