What Is Cashew Milk?

Cashew milk is a creamy dairy alternative that can be used in place of dairy milk in all kinds of drinks & dishes.  

It’s made by soaking cashews in water overnight to make them soft and blend-able, and then blitzing them until they create a cashew pulp. The creamy white liquid is then drained from the mashed cashews, leaving behind a delicious, nutty drink. 

Because cashews have a high fat content, cashew drink is the creamiest of the dairy alternatives. Unlike cow’s milk, it has far fewer naturally occurring sugars, making it a great substitute for those mindful of their blood sugar levels. Cashew milk is delicious in coffees, porridge, and even in soups and baking.

Can I Make Cashew Milk At Home?

Yes. Making cashew drink is a labour of love, but well worth the effort. 

The process is fairly simple, although it can take up an entire day to soak your cashews before blending. If this is something you’d like to try for yourself all you’ll need is cashews, water, and a blender. After soaking your cashews overnight and draining them, just tip them into a blender with some water and blend until smooth. Cashew milk tends to blend into a smooth consistency which means there’s no need to strain it. If you would like the smoothest homemade nut milk in town, though, pass it through a fine muslin cloth before chilling in the fridge, and enjoying.

Why Do You Call It Cashew Drink And Not Cashew Milk?

Anything from a grain or nut can’t be called milk. If it’s from an animal or a coconut, it can be called milk. Those are the rules, and that’s fine by us.

Other people call their drinks “m*lk” or “mylk”, but at Rude Health we are happy with “drink”- because that’s exactly what it is. A deliciously tasty and creamy drink made from organic cashews and little else.
