Nut your average drink
Our new Chilled Hazelnut Drink has launched in Sainsbury’s, and you won’t want to miss it. It’s a drink that brings together indulgent flavour, thoughtful sourcing, and a refreshingly clean ingredients list.
Why a chilled hazelnut drink?
Plant-based drinks are part of everyday life for many people, but it’s easy to get stuck in the same routine. Oat, almond, soya, and coconut have become familiar favourites, but we saw an opportunity to offer something a little different: a drink that leans into big flavour without compromising on the ingredients list.
Sometimes you want something that feels like a treat without the unnecessary additives. Our Chilled Hazelnut Drink is for you. Enriched with calcium, it’s nutty, naturally sweet, and made without artificial ingredients or added sugars. Perfect for those looking to elevate their everyday rituals without the “nasties.”
So, what does it taste like?
Rich, roasty, comforting.
Expect a deep, roasted hazelnut flavour that’s both aromatic and smooth, rounded off by a gentle sweetness from rice. No need for syrups or added sugars here, the ingredients speak for themselves. It’s the kind of drink that transforms your morning coffee, adds depth to smoothies, or simply shines on its own over ice.
The star ingredient: Italian Tonda Gentile hazelnuts
At the heart of this drink are roasted Tonda Gentile hazelnuts from Piedmont, widely regarded as the gold standard of hazelnuts.
Often referred to as Tonda Gentile delle Langhe, these hazelnuts are prized for their naturally sweet, intensely aromatic profile. The unique microclimate of the Langhe hills, warm summers, cool evenings, and mineral-rich soil, creates ideal growing conditions. The result? Nuts that are smaller, more concentrated in flavour, and beautifully balanced.
When roasted, these hazelnuts develop a deep, almost buttery aroma with subtle notes of cocoa and toasted bread. They’re also known for their thin skins and low bitterness, which means a smoother, more refined taste in the final drink.
The secret source
Hazelnuts grown in this region are typically cultivated in smaller-scale orchards, often on hilly terrain that doesn’t lend itself to intensive farming. This encourages more traditional, lower-impact agricultural practices.
Compared to some other nut crops, hazelnuts generally require less water, and European farming standards support responsible land use and biodiversity. While no crop is without impact, sourcing from regions like Piedmont allows us to prioritise both quality and more considered farming methods.
For mornings that need a little more
If your morning routine has started to feel a little samey, this is your invitation to try something new. Rich, nutty and naturally packed with flavour, it's proof that sometimes the best way to stand out is to keep things simple.
